Personalized Data Sources: How Underwriters Customize Their Enrichment View by Product

D&O underwriters need Capital IQ and EDGAR. Cyber underwriters need CyberCube. EPL underwriters need ClassActions.org. Let each UW see exactly what they need.

The Problem

A carrier writes 12 lines of business. Each LOB has different data needs. The D&O team lives in SEC filings and credit ratings. The cyber team needs vulnerability scans. The EPL team needs employment lawsuit databases. But most platforms show every underwriter the same data — either too much (drowning in irrelevant data) or too little (missing the one source that matters).

The InsightUW Approach

InsightUW provides three levels of data source selection — product defaults, UW personalization, and LOB fallback — so every underwriter sees exactly the providers they need for the product they're working on.

graph TD subgraph Priority["Selection Priority"] L1["1. UW Personalization
Saved per UW + product"] L2["2. Product Default
12 product profiles"] L3["3. LOB Fallback
Category-based"] end subgraph Personalize["Personalize Modal"] Modal["18 providers as checkboxes
grouped by category
Save per product"] end subgraph Example["Example: Sarah Chen"] DEF["D&O Public default:
7 providers"] Custom["Sarah's D&O custom:
Capital IQ, Edgar, Law360
(3 providers — focused)"] end L1 -->|"Found"| Custom L1 -->|"Not found"| L2 L2 -->|"Found"| DEF L2 -->|"Not found"| L3 Modal --> L1

12 Product Profiles

Each product has a curated default provider list:

Product Key Providers Why
D&O Public Capital IQ, EDGAR, Law360 SEC filings, securities litigation, credit
EPL ClassActions.org, Glassdoor Employment lawsuits, workplace culture
Cyber CyberCube, Cryptella Cyber risk scoring, dark web exposure
Excess Casualty Vindata, Iris Vehicle/fleet data, risk intelligence
Property ISO Prometrix, Risk Meter Protection class, natural hazard scores

Personalization Flow

 1. UW opens submission detail → Data Enrichment tab
 2. Sees product default providers as chips (e.g., 7 for D&O Public)
 3. Clicks "Personalize Sources" → modal shows all 18 providers with checkboxes
 4. UW unchecks D&B and News (not needed), adds Glassdoor (interested in management culture)
 5. Clicks Save → preferences stored per {Sarah Chen, D&O Public}
 6. Next D&O Public submission automatically shows Sarah's custom list

LOB-Specific Example

EPL for a large retailer:

The EPL default profile includes 6 providers: ClassActions.org, Glassdoor, Court Records, Company Websites, News, D&B.

UW Jennifer Walsh handles EPL. She finds Glassdoor reviews unreliable for large employers and prefers to check the company's own DEI reports. She personalizes:
- Removes: Glassdoor
- Adds: Capital IQ (wants to check employee count trends)
- Keeps: ClassActions.org, Court Records, Company Websites, News, D&B

Next time Jennifer opens an EPL submission, she sees her custom 6 providers instead of the default 6.

Meanwhile, her colleague David Kim (also EPL) still sees the default profile — personalization is per-UW.

What This Means for Underwriters

 1. Product-aware defaults — right providers for D&O vs Cyber vs EPL out of the box
 2. Personalizable — customize per product without affecting colleagues
 3. Three-level fallback — UW preference → product default → LOB-based
 4. 18 providers available — even if the default is 6, any of the 18 can be added
 5. Persisted — preferences remembered across sessions, no re-configuration needed
