Manager Assignment Dashboard: Prioritize and Assign with Capacity Intelligence

10 unassigned submissions. 4 UWs with varying capacity. InsightUW shows who can take what — and recommends the best fit.

The Problem

Monday morning: 10 new submissions arrived over the weekend. The manager needs to assign them. David Kim has 14 active — he's overloaded. Sarah Chen is on PTO. Lisa Park specializes in Cyber but the submissions are mostly GL. The manager opens each submission, checks each UW's workload in their head, and guesses.

The InsightUW Approach

InsightUW's Assignment Dashboard shows three things simultaneously: what needs assigning, who has capacity, and where the AI recommends each submission go.

graph TD subgraph Unassigned["Unassigned Submissions"] U1["Apex Medical D&O
Priority: 59 | 3d open"] U2["Nova Pay Cyber
Priority: 58 | Rush"] U3["Ironclad WC
Priority: 33 | 5d open"] end subgraph Capacity["UW Capacity"] C1["Sarah: 0/10 available
░░░░░░░░░░ 0%"] C2["Lisa: 0/15 available
░░░░░░░░░░ 0%"] C3["James: 0/15 available
░░░░░░░░░░ 0%"] C4["David: 14/10 Overloaded
██████████████ 140%"] end subgraph Recommend["AI Recommendations"] R1["Apex D&O → Sarah
(LOB match + available)"] R2["Nova Pay Cyber → Lisa
(LOB match + available)"] R3["Ironclad WC → James
(lowest utilization)"] end U1 --> R1 --> C1 U2 --> R2 --> C2 U3 --> R3 --> C3

Three Assignment Methods

Method How Best For
Single assign Click submission → select UW One-off assignments
Bulk assign Select 5 submissions → pick UW Batch assignment to one UW
Rules-based auto One click → engine assigns all Monday morning bulk processing

Rules-Based Assignment Logic

 1. Capacity filter — only UWs with available slots
 2. LOB match — prefer UWs whose specialties include the submission's LOB
 3. Level/experience — rush/high-priority → senior UWs
 4. Lowest utilization — tiebreaker: most available UW

LOB-Specific Example

Monday Morning — 10 Unassigned Submissions:

Manager Mike Rodriguez opens the assignment dashboard:

Submission LOB Priority Days Open
Apex Medical D&O 59 3
NovaPay Cyber 58 RUSH
Ironclad WC 33 5
... 7 more

UW Capacity:
| UW | Active/Max | Utilization | Status |
|-----|-----------|-------------|--------|
| Sarah Chen | 0/10 | 0% | Available |
| Lisa Park | 0/15 | 0% | Available |
| James Wilson | 0/15 | 0% | Available |
| David Kim | 14/10 | 140% | Overloaded |

Mike clicks "Auto-Assign All." The engine distributes: D&O → Sarah (LOB match), Cyber → Lisa (LOB match), remaining → James and Lisa (capacity-based). David gets nothing — he's overloaded.

What This Means for Underwriters

 1. Visual capacity — managers see exactly who's available and who's overloaded
 2. AI recommendations — system suggests best UW per submission based on LOB + capacity
 3. Three assignment options — single, bulk, or fully automatic
 4. Fair distribution — rules ensure balanced workload across the team
 5. Overload protection — overloaded UWs automatically excluded from new assignments
