Portfolio Goals: Write and Track Your Personal Underwriting Objectives

"Grow Cyber book to $2M." "Improve hit ratio to 20%." "Strengthen Gallagher relationship." InsightUW lets UWs write, track, and update personal goals alongside their production metrics.

The Problem

Every underwriter has goals — but they live in annual review documents, forgotten by February. The UW knows they want to grow their Cyber book, but they have no way to track progress against that goal alongside their daily workflow. Goals and production live in different worlds.

The InsightUW Approach

InsightUW lets underwriters create personal portfolio goals with target metrics, track progress, and see them on their personalized dashboard alongside real production data.

Six Goal Types

Type Example Metric
Growth "Grow Cyber book to $2M bound premium" bound_premium
Retention "Retain 90% of D&O renewals" retention_rate
Profitability "Improve hit ratio to 20%" hit_ratio
Skill "Complete MedMal specialization training" completion
Relationship "5 bound accounts from Gallagher" new_accounts
Strategic "Develop parametric insurance for Property" milestone

LOB-Specific Example

Jennifer Walsh's 2026 Goals:

# Type Goal Target Progress
1 Growth Grow Cyber book to $2M bound premium $2,000,000 10%
2 Profitability Improve hit ratio to 20% 20% 0%
3 Relationship Strengthen Gallagher — 5 bound accounts 5 accounts 0%

Jennifer opens her personal dashboard every Monday and checks: Cyber premium at $200K (10% of target), hit ratio at 3.7% (needs work), Gallagher accounts at 0 (haven't started).

She updates goal #1's notes: "Bound TechVault Cyber in March. Targeting 3 more mid-market tech accounts this quarter."

What This Means for Underwriters

  1. Personal ownership — goals live alongside your daily workflow, not in a forgotten document
  2. Progress tracking — see how far you've come and how far you need to go
  3. Six dimensions — growth, retention, profitability, skill, relationship, strategic
  4. Dashboard integration — goals appear on your personal dashboard next to real metrics
  5. Update anytime — add notes, adjust targets, mark complete as you progress
